Inspiring people to make a positive change in order to live a healthier and happier life.

That’s what we live by at the club.

We want to inspire as many people as possible to make positive changes and lead a healthy and happy life – that’s it.

Unfortunately, all too often, the biggest barrier to this happening tends to be the people themselves!

If your child were to ask you to compare them against another child, would you?

You have no idea about the other child’s life. So it would simply be wrong to start making direct comparisons.

So, being a decent, responsible, logical parent, the conversation would probably veer towards exactly that; you explaining to your child that you shouldn’t compare, because you don’t know the full story, and your child should take greater consideration and time on focusing on how they can continue to improve.

We hope we’re all in agreement so far.

So. Why do the same adults instantly compare themselves to others to judge their progress?

We’re going to try and keep this short, sharp and blunt, so it’s hopefully easy to understand as to why the only person you need to compare yourself against is you.

These are our three main reasons why you shouldn’t compare yourself to anyone else.

  • A lot of people lie. It’s unfortunate, but true. With easy-to-use editing apps, the vast amount of what you see on social media is edited. A trained Chimp can use these apps to make pictures look stunning. Also, people want to appear stronger and fitter, so will literally lie about what they can do.

Do not believe 90% of the bullsh*t you see on social media to be real.

  • Performance enhancing drugs are a lot more common than what you think. A lot. Yes, we’re talking about ‘normal’ people that just train and/or compete on a small, recreational level. For whatever reason people use to justify taking them, if used correctly, they can work wonders. Trust us, there are a lot of people out there that you might not think are using PEDs, but they are.
  • The people you compare yourself to; chances are you have no idea about their lifestyle. Whether they have kids, a stressful job, eating allergies/disorders, sleeping issues, etc. There is a host of reasons as to why someone is ‘better’ or ‘worse’ than you. If you were involved in a 100m race, and you gave someone a 50m head start, would you fancy yourself to win?! Or what if you had the 50m head start? That is quite literally what peoples lifestyles can do for them, give them a massive head start, or set them back.

What exactly is T1G?

The Tribe One Grading (T1G) programme is essentially a series of ongoing workouts that can be used to assess performance and progress against.

The workouts will vary between being Fitness based and Strength based. Members receive a result for the workout. Their result is judged against some relevant raw data, and as well as being judged by the clubs coaches, who assess the score through a more subjective, yet realistic lense.

For example, there is a lot solid data out there for people rowing 2000m and what constitutes a ‘good’ time. However, how many of these people were over 50? How many were under 30? How many were elite level or professional athletes? How many were recreational gym-goers that had 3 children and worked a full-time job?

This is where the real world experience and knowledge of the coaches play the crucial role.

The more of these T1G workouts members do, the more results they recieve, and results are then used to work through our programme. Members move through the programme in a similar fashion to a Martial Artist working through a belt system; Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Red, Brown and Black.

So, all of the above is one of the main reasons we have started our T1G programme (we’ll go into more reasons later in other posts).

Ultimately. When judging yourself, instead of comparing yourself to anyone else, compare yourself to the person you were 6 months ago, 12 months ago, 3 years ago, etc.

Take into account everything that has happened in that time frame, and then ask yourself if you are happy with your progress.
